CTHS - Discipline

The maintenance of good discipline among our learners is encouraged, for both their personal development, well-being and security as well as that of the Staff and School in general.
 
Absenteeism:

All of our learners are required to attend school for the full hours, every day. Where a learner cannot attend school for any reason, an Absentee Register form (signed and dated by the Parent or Guardian) must be provided. CTHS - School Uniform & Dress Code

Like most schools in our province, there are is a specific school uniform Dress and Appearance Code we require all students to follow when at school.

Our School's Vision

Cape Town High School strives to produce learners who are well-rounded individuals and responsible citizens; who value respect of opinion, respect of person and respect of body; who promote tolerance and non-discrimination.

We strive to create an unprejudiced environment which is firm but fair, sets sound boundaries, sets store by watching our appearance, achieves discipline, offers incentives, honours achievement and fosters leadership in a co-educational multicultural setting.

Our School's Mission

 Teachers will always apply the School Rules.

• Every learner must participate in at least one extra-mural activity offered at Cape Town High School per Term;
  
  
• We strive to maintain a goal-setting environment within which learners can set, pursue and achieve higher goals;
   
• Teachers nurture a positive rapport with their learners;
   
• The school focuses on the quality of passes by using class time effectively;
   
• Teachers strive for punctuality and commitment;

Assessment of each learners' progress is a primary function of all schools.

CTHS - Exam Rules

The following Examination Rules are in place at Cape Town High School:

The Revision Session:

·    ABSOLUTE SILENCE;

·    No sitting together;

·    No borrowing;

·    NO TALKING;

·    Revise and go over your work;

·    Failure to adhere to the rules will result in you writing the exam once everyone else has gone home;

·    You may NOT leave the room for any reason;

·    The teacher must maintain 100% silence in the class.

During the Exam:

·    No pieces of paper allowed anywhere on your person;

·    No electronic devices allowed in the venues;

·    Cell phones must be SWITCHED OFF, not on silent mode;

·    Absolute silence, no communication of any type is allowed between learners;

·    Raise your hand if you have a query and wait for the invigilator to come to you;

·    No Tipp-Ex or correcting fluids allowed;

·    No borrowing or lending of equipment;

·    All bags must be placed in the front or back of the venue;

·    No looking around;

·    You may not deface (colour in, draw pictures, etc.) on the exam paper or script;

·    No personal messages may be written on your exam script;

·    Read and Follow all INSTRUCTIONS carefully;

·    Read through the question paper before answering;

·    When you have completed the paper, remain SILENT and do not look around.

CTHS - Awards

Outstanding performance at Cape Town High School in the fields of Academic Subjects, Sport and Services to the School in various categories is recognised by a number of awards and certificates. These are presented to the deserving learners at a prize-giving ceremony held at the end of each year.

Broadly speaking, there are three categories of award:

• Service Awards
• Academic Awards
• Sporting Awards

Service Awards

These are usually certificates, awarded to individual learners and as groups, for services rendered to the CTHS community in one or more areas, such as the Guardians, the School Choir, The Sound and Lightng team, the Media team, the Matric Ball and associated fundraising committees, etc.

Academic Awards

These are certificates and (in exceptional cases) prestigious award trophies awarded to individual learners who have excelled academically, via the following categories:

  Gold Certificates

for outstanding Afrikaans results

for excellence in Afrikaans

for the best Natural Science learner in the GET Phase

for the best Tourism practical work

The Shirley Futuran Floating Trophy
for excellence in English writing

The Michael Cranstoun-Day Trophy and Certificate
for the learner who puts in more than 100 % effort into every task he/she undertakes 

The Tony and Gwen Thomas Trophy
for public speaking

The Ian Koenigfest Trophy and Certificate
for outstanding involvement in school life
